Part one, the quiet part, of my latest magnum opus is now ready for your consumption!
So we’re out of work. And for my part, it doesn’t feel at all bad.
No idea how I want to roll: unemployed & making records, freelancing (ughh, seems like a hassle for someone with my spending talent and lack of financial one) or some form of day job. Though that would have to be pretty damn interesting to be honest, I haven’t yet developed any hidden desire for being a part of a global family of bees.
Coffee tastes less good but waking up is better. I’ll have to see about the rest, the what-would-I-like-to-do-now -bit in the coming weeks/months. In no hurry, luckily.
Nyhow. It’s probably not a bad time also to tell you two about a couple of things:
FUTURE DREAMS is the third installment of the unfinished (but apparently growing) Future family. It’s the softestestest and most organic of the three. It’s a sister to these two:
Also, The Cave and Boxy Music are available on Spotify. Just search for Ghost Monkey, I don’t have the URL because I … uhh … haven’t used Spotify?
See?! I can make do stuffs. Now you make buy, yes???
So, as an anti-christmas present I bought myself a bow and some mallets. Started bowing stuff, cymbals, glass objects, zithers, mbira… it was good fun. I decided it’d be nice and stress-free to do a little soundtrack to a movie that doesn’t exist.
Anyhow, I was at GDC this year and, thanks to a brilliant session about aleatoric and atonal music, was inspired to buy a cello, the cheapest one possible. That’s what I got – the endpin is busted and two of the four fine tuners had funky plastic parts that snapped right off when putting the thing together. I have been having fun with my sweet two-stringed cello. Not sure if the neighbors agree. The “songs” are quick and dirty and might cause you pain if you like your purity. Easy listening fans … might want to check out my other offerings.
In this piece we’ll find tunnels inside an old abandoned drilling site, tunnels that lead to a vast and strangely formed serpentine cavern that seems to stretch out forever. In the bottom, an ancient vessel, the likes of which our eyes have never graced. The vessel, with very little persuation, takes us far away; horror and adventure ensues. The usual fare.
I get bored easily. There might be a medical term for that. Nevertheless, I did a few short melodies while being bored and might do a few more. The resultant thing:
The sad bit is, I really enjoy doing these vignettes instead of “real” songs. Let’s see if the set expands.
Also, besides the Ghost Monkey facebook page , I’ve been writing shitty non-poetry! You can experience it here. It’s quite public so feel free to, you know, fax it around.
Love, Tuukka / Ghost Monkey / Various aliases
Future Cities was getting unwieldy and I was having a real hard time balancing the two types of songs (okay, tracks) on it. Almost as if it was two separate albums!
So we have…
and her even more quiet and introverted sister
I’m not sure how I’ll go about the whole thing. I’ve been thinking of releasing Cities for sale, yes, but would people pay money for the Ruins? I guess I’ve grown far too accustomed of giving away all of my non-game music for free!

All of them for Future Cities. Let’s see if I can get it done this year, I have a hunch I don’t have a loth of money for the mastering…

Yeah. I’m about to do a record about, well, everything, but the theme here is the somewhat naive cleanliness and technological optimism about future that vintage science magazines and sci-fi often embodies, how it clashes with modern cities and it’s irrelevance to actual human life. About how that life would actually feel like, the moments in it.
Nah. I’m going to do sci-fi album. That sounds better.
Ok. Here’s a bunch of tracks off my Soundcloud. Most of these are not on the albums found here, they’ll get their turn. Maybe.
Zen Bound 2 Universal is out now for all the iDevices, get it while it’s stinking hot! To commemorate this momentous release, we also released my soundtracks for both the ZB games.
So: to download Bound & Rebound, go to the Zen Bound website and enter your email on our non-spammy spam list. You get Instant Winz in form of the soundtrack download link. And we get to send you funnies once or twice a year.
About that ZB2 Universal. Man, it’s a good game, I think, the best we’ve made so far. You really should own it. Yeah, you. Did you know we have also been doing a desktop version? No? Well that’s it up there, the video, me playing on my MBP, I have to tell you, the touchpad controls are almost as sweet as on iPad. Syrupy.
No, don’t talk to me about Android, why did you buy that?
Oh you didn’t really believe all that bullshit about open source, did you?
You thought you’d get porn, ha? Well, someone has to code those tits, you know, and no-one is doing that shit for free! :D Okay, okay, maybe we’ll do androids, too, for you. In the future, when it’s not frowned upon, sex with robots. For now, download my music and buy some wooden objects.
♠ Ok, I’m not stupid, it’s kinda music but what IS this Ghost Monkey anyhow?
Ghost Monkey is me, sometimes with friends. It’s not exactly outside genres but I do like to try out sounds I don’t get to hear elsewhere. You get a mixed bag of slow stuff and rough stuff. Serves you right.
I started making music partly to get rid of the constant MTV noise around me, lately I’ve just stopped watching MTV or listening to FM radio! I make music because I love it, if it makes your day better, my job is done and paid in full.*
It’s okay. Here’s the goods:
The Album Page.
Get your music here for free. What is this shit?
And this stuff seems … unfinished?!
I rarely go to MySpace, lately, to be honest but it’s nice to have so many friends!. See, now, you found me, now you get it here!
* Unless someone good decides to publish it, fair deal, then you get to have Finished Products in digital form and hopefully on wax.
<3 tuukka / poly / all that
I really like Logic 9, made some takeaway. Might be a bit harsh on old ears, I’ve done my worst to make fast food joint music. Still to come some day: Iskender Donor, Kbab Donor and Meatigan Menu.
EDIT: MONDAY ADDITION : LOGIC DISTORTIONS AND AMP DESIGNER
I also spent some of my last holiday moments testing the distortions on Logic 9, here’s a silly multitrack rave organ bit
… first clean
… and then through the amps and “pedals”.
They’re rather useful, in my opinion, not as revolutionary as the flex time but a handy way of dirtying up your tracks. As with most things, these would be better used in moderation but as Pitafel also demostrated with the flexible timing, sometimes you need to use the obvious things with your new toys first, to get them out of the way. Right?
15 tracks, fifty minutes of soothing sounds.

“Ghost Monkey: Tea for Miss Yamaha” vinyls exist but are heavy as fuck and cost a bit to send. doh. Obviously. Cd:s don’t but i can make it happen if you give me a good excuse. or then you could just donate me some money and feel good about downloading the mp3s.
We’ll start off with the Second Coffee Nimbus which tells us about life in the northern hemisphere. Just turn on the tube on an empty channel and imagine you’ve got a video to go with all of these. Second, let’s enter Blues for freaks. In this church the things have truly gone to hell. The tentacles of sin (lubricated for her pleasure) are all around. Third, if my memory serves me, is the part where Monkey Wards off the Juju. This epic tale follows the monkey through bad times of me playing a melodica. Finally there’s redemption and lurve. Fourth, and a closer to the first side of my beautiful vinyl, is Mountain of Glue. Oh yes.
Second side begins with Vahinja which is a story about a country that turns against it’s own citizens. This always leads to peace & prosperity. Then we have Assasins, a story about time travel, love, a nemesis and all that. I’m still quite proud of this bastard, really. Kryla Jam explores the slowed down disco territory. Jam is the stuff you put on a toast if you want it to rock like a rocking chair. Halla, the closer, tells us a story about human relations using the frost-bitten landscape of autumny north as a metaphore. Or so I say but then again I’m making these notes up as I go…
This record was produced, mixed, played and discarded by Polyfonken with Dj Holik on turntables, Anna vocalising, KrushingFunkLords on the flute, Evill as the sampled beatbox and a lot of (mostly dead) musicians contributing without permission.
Contact the evil bastard at email@example.com if you need another fix or want me to design Fabulous Record Covers and remix your multi-giga-platinum selling tune that rips off de la soul:s ring ring ring. Or if you want to release his next album
lots of love and thanks for listening
